Buyer-Seller Relations

Sharp producers take extra measures to gain a good reputation and keep their better customers. For example, one Kentucky hay producer includes several extra bales with every load he delivers to replace any below-standard bales that might show up while the hay is fed.

Most producers also are willing to make an adjustment in price if a steady customer reports that a previous load did not measure up to expectations.

During years of short hay supplies, when good producers cannot supply the needs of their favorite customers, they scout around for enough hay to keep their customers in adequate supply. This is preferable to the risk of losing a good customer.

Surveys indicate that the most important factor in good buyer-seller relations is honesty. Also, communication is crucial because the producer and dealer must clearly understand what is expected of each other. Putting statements into writing helps prevent misunderstandings .
