Selling From the Field

When hay and straw supplies run short in the spring and there is a strong demand, southern Illinois producers can sometimes take advantage of their earlier harvest dates by selling directly from the field.

In such instances, the dealer and/or customer takes on the curing and shrinkage risks, so the price will have to be appropriately less. In return, the producer has less labor, storage, and equipment costs.
